An enlarged prostate , medically referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is a common condition affecting men, particularly as they age. The prostate gland, which is part of the male reproductive system, surrounds the urethra and produces fluid that nourishes and transports sperm. When the prostate becomes enlarged, it can compress the urethra, leading to difficulties with urination and other related symptoms. While BPH is not cancerous and does not increase the risk of prostate cancer, it can significantly impact a man’s quality of life if left untreated.
